NOLA Youth Works 2013: Read Blvd

The District 2 Community Enhancement Corporation (CEC) is excited about our FINO signature program and the work our young people have done over the past few weeks. For years, District 2 CEC has had the pleasure of working with young people throughout the City; now, thanks to the Mayor Landrieu, NOLA Youth Works and Total Community Action team, we have another outstanding group of young people this summer.

In the latter part of 2007 the District 2 Community Enhancement Corporation started a Clean and Beautiful program for Eastern New Orleans and Lower Ninth Ward residents, as part of a Bring New Orleans Back initiative. This project included the construction of signs and landscaping on major thoroughfares. Due to significant cuts in funding from the State of Louisiana and the limited resources available to the City of New Orleans for beautification projects, maintaining these signs is quite a challenge.

After numerous roundtable discussions on social and community responsibility, the NOLA Youth Works students decided that they would beautify the sign located on the corner of Read Blvd and the I-10 Service road in Eastern New Orleans as part of their community initiative. Thanks to the partnership with both the Home Depot and Lowes stores in New Orleans East the completion of this initiative will come to fruition.
